En la Biblia, el profeta es alguien que habla en nombre de otro y, en la mayoría de los casos, uno que habla en nombre de Dios, que es el portavoz y representante. Sin embargo, el uso común hace, profeta es, casi exclusivamente, alguien que predice el futuro. Pero la predicción de eventos futuros es sólo una parte del mensaje del profeta, y no siempre se incluye. En el Antiguo Testamento, el profeta es llamado NABI término que puede significar “que es llamado por Dios”, y tiene el mandato de decirle a otros acerca de Dios. Profeta, vidente y revelador –
o que se ve a través de la revelación divina, a veces en visiones y sueños reales, un mensaje que transmite Dios y que a su vez debe transmitir a los demás. En este sentido amplio, se puede decir que el profeta es una persona que ha sido llamado por Dios, a quien Dios confió su mensaje y lo anunció a los demás. LA BONDAD DE DIOS .
