How, when?, And why is celebrated on Thanksgiving ?.
Understanding the issue.
Why is held:
In 1620 the Pilgrims traveled from England to America on the Mayflower and landed at Plymouth. Escaping the strictures of the Church of England and also of poverty. Could be considered the first American immigrants .
Native Indians of Massachusetts received them amicably and shared their knowledge with the pilgrims on crops on this land and taught them to hunt and cure meat of animals in the area.
To celebrate they had managed to survive a harsh winter and had a bumper crop that would help them face the next , the Pilgrims held a great dinner. They invited the native Indians were grateful for his help. The first Thanksgiving celebration lasted several days. Both the Indians and the Pilgrims shared food, drink and fun .
Today is a day of thanks for the harvest and for all that you have in life.
When held:
The first U.S. president , George Washington declared the first Thanksgiving Day on February 19, 1795. Later, Abraham Lincoln chose the October 3, 1863 as a day of reflection and gratitude.
President Theodore Roosevelt in 1941 changed the day of Thanksgiving to the fourth Thursday in November, which is still the day the holiday is celebrated.
How is celebrated the day of action in the United States:
It’s a family celebration in which people even travel to another state to meet his family. As in the United States are more independent from each other in Latino families , make the effort to meet at least once a year.
It is one of the most important celebrations in the United States and marks the beginning of the Christmas shopping season . The traditional menu is roast turkey, mashed potatoes, candied sweet potatoes and glazed carrots, green beans and rolls or accompaniment . The typical dessert is pumpkin pie or pecan nuts.
Many restaurants offer a special menu that day , and some supermarkets and traditional menu delisvenden already cooked. I can order a few days ago and picked up on the morning of Thanksgiving.
If you’re cooking at home, you can customize the menu for Thanksgiving as you want and give it a Latin touch.
Celebrate it if you’re not ? U.S.?
Never hurts to celebrate a day of thanksgiving a year. Many Latinos living in the United States celebrate who were welcomed here in this country and managed to meet their professional and personal dreams.
You can use this day to teach your children the origins of American celebrations, traditions speak of your own culture and to help raise them as bicultural.
Ideas for Thanksgiving Day:
Reunté with family and friends and if possible, invite people who do not have family in this country.
Try to help others less fortunate. Make a donation to an organization that helps people without resources or volunteer at a shelter.
Make a list with your children of blessings. Actually this is something you can do throughout the year to raise respectful and grateful children.
Host a meal in which each participant brings a dish typical of his country . No need to follow the traditional menu . The important thing is to share a special day with friends and family.
Many families decorate your tree this Christmas day or put the birth .
¿Celebrarlo si no eres estadounidense?
Procura ayudar a otras personas menos afortunadas.
